Committing a day gives the system permission to top up from mains that day only — it waits for solar until 16:00 (unless the day is 2 °C+ short even with all forecast sun, in which case it fires as soon as that's obvious), fires once at most, and the heat pump stops itself at target.

When tomorrow is confidently short on renewables, the tub is left to cool through the evening (a long run only fires below 38.5 °C) and then charges hard on your cheap rate — the pump typically overshoots to ~41 °C, banking maximum overnight heat. Not set = this does nothing.
